My friend Deb and I were discussing our experiences supporting our older family members, and she mentioned that her friend wrote a book about caregiving. The book was a gift from Deb…and what a gift has been. For a heavy topic…it is a light read. My father passed away unexpectedly at a young 64. I didn’t experience the aging process with him because he was still working, very active in the Lion’s Club, strong, and he was just starting to get grey hair at his temples. Now 17 years later I have been resistant to face the fact that both my mother and aunt are getting older. When I think of them I always think of them as they were around age 50 – vibrant, inquisitive, bold, and constantly doing something. Because of this picture in my head, I’ve been surprised over this past year that they are aging. It’s like all of the sudden they are getting older. The Dutiful Daughter’s Guide to Caregiving came into my life at the perfect time. It has helped me to get moving on organizing their important information BEFORE it is needed. I’ve started a caregiver information binder for my mother and aunt. I’m even creating an information binder of my own! The Dutiful Daughter’s Guide to Caregiving is filled with tips and inspiration.
