2013 Hillsborough County Women’s Hall of Fame

On March 28, 2013, three Women were inducted into the Hillsborough County Women’s Hall of Fame. By an unusual coincidence, all three of these remarkable women are graduates of the University of South Florida.

Three Inductees:

dottie berger mackinnonThe Honorable Dottie Berger MacKinnon:

She was elected as a Hillsborough County Commissioner and served as the Commission Chair. Pursuing her devotion to children, she founded Joshua House, Friends of Joshua House Foundation, Kids Charity of Tampa Bay and A Kid’s Place. To learn more about A Kid’s Place visit: www.akidsplacetb.org

dewey roberts

Deanne Dewey Roberts:

She chaired Leadership Florida, the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, and founded Emerge Tampa, a leadership program for young professionals. She also began the Public Relations Firm ChappellRoberts, and served as a mentor to many young women.

juel shanon smith

Dr. Juel Hickman Shannon Smith:

She is a founding director of USF Institute for Black Life and the Center for Africa and the Diaspora. She helped spearhead “The Links Incorporated’s” efforts to build more than 60 schools in South African and Nigerian villages.

 

“The Hillsborough County Women’s Hall of Fame” was created by the Hillsborough County Commission to honor women who, through their lives and efforts, have made significant contributions to the improvement of life for women, and for all the citizens of Hillsborough County.
